What’s a Control Panel?
A control panel is a “back end” administrative tool used to manage many of the features and operations of a server. These include user accounts, user services, upgrades and software. When connected to your server, they’re a great way to gain more control of your account and your site(s). Macsoft offers cPanel/WHM, Plesk Panel, and Parallels Small Business Panel.
Parallels Small Business Panel was designed primarily for novices and small to medium businesses. Plesk Panel and cPanel are traditional control panels that allow for more power and flexibility, but also have a steeper learning curve. Expert users may choose to not use a control panel and instead opt for operating on the command-line. Either way, we’re here to help, and are more than willing to offer our advice should you find it difficult to choose. Just ask us.
You’ll notice the extensive features we’ve listed below differ between products. cPanel and Plesk market their tools differently, but these lists are the quickest and most accurate way to present a “snapshot view” to help you determine which is right for you.
The best way to choose a control panel is to visit the developers’ websites to demo each panel. We strongly recommend visiting both cPanel and Parallels to view their demos and learning more about their offerings. |
